Funding for research and projects has come from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and from a consortium of states' Departments of Health.
